The first installation of this project took place at Churchill Gardens Estate, Pimlico, May 5th 2014 and was part of 1 day event Passport to Pimlico, curated by Lana Locke.
Following a project exploring radical education, we set up a small ‘adventure playground’ based on The Land in Wrexham, North Wales.
We wanted to build a play area where children could explore, build and demolish an unofficial play space, learning to manage their own risks in a fluctuating environment. Other activities included den building and sign painting.
Children interacted with the structures, treating the site as their own territory. They were encouraged to adapt the space as they pleased, tools and support were provided to aid this. The children had the opportunity to take control of this space and experiment freely with creating their own community, environment and rules.
