Comfort Tones presents a range of works which respond to the initial piece in the show - a curatorial premise whereby the domestic cum studio features of the Project Number space are partly concealed yet still dominant.
The work shown implicates the art object among those redundant design features around us in our homes and workspaces. Screen-like structures dress the space, concealing the fittings. These mimic, on a different scale, the clumsy erasure of urban planning and question the functionality of these features. In turn, work placed on and around the screens takes on skeuomorphic qualities with a similar logic to veneer flooring and coal effect fires or the comfortably mechanical facets of analogue technology simulated in their digital counterparts like the faux click of a digital camera.
"The past went that-a-way. When faced with a totally new situation, we tend always to attach ourselves to the objects, to the flavor of the most recent past. We look at the present through a rear view mirror. We march backwards into the future." Marshall McLuhan
Comfort Tones is an exhibition of works curated by Vulpes Vulpes, an artist-led group which hosts exhibitions, performances, workshops and runs an artist studio space in Clapton. The project is not for profit and is managed and run collectively.

The Second Attempt of Phane Turglo, Lewisham Arthouse, London. April 2011

The Second Attempt of Phane Terglo is a curating project by ten artists studying in the MFA Fine Art program at Goldsmiths, University of London.
This exhibition leaves everyone in the dark. The curated artist Phane Terglo is nowhere to be found. Terglo's invisibility leads one to think that this 'second attempt' departs from an impossibility of dialogue. The implications of this gesture, as a premise of production, triggers a critical evaluation of the conventional acting of roles involved in the production and circulation of contemporary art.
Phane Terglo's initial act of rejection deprives the exhibition of any ordering principle: the artists become at once the protagonists and the interpreters of the show; and the textual aspects of the public presentation of artworks becomes a mere meta-commentary, disconnected from aesthetic appreciation.
